Thats awesome!! Thank you for the detailed explanation! Certainly something to look into once we're settled in. Plex handles a ton of different types of media, including video (movies and TV shows as well as personal videos), music, photos, and even live TV (more on this in. Most of us on these forums are geeks and like to do this sort of stuff ourselves and we wish we could do everything ourselves but that is not how the C4 model works. Many (most?) Control4 users will never do any programming. So you can do all of this programming yourself and change it as frequently as you would like. It allows you to do almost everything that a dealer can do, except you cannot add in new hardware items, like a new TV, light switch, etc.
#ROKU PLEX MOVIE#
It is a slightly altered version of Composer Pro - the Pro version is only available to dealers. Plex is a native app on Roku in the official channel store that allows almost any new movie or show to be played without ever using your.

It is a program that allows you to program in Control4 in a simplified form. I like the idea of playing music directly from the C4 UI.
#ROKU PLEX HOW TO#
RELATED: How to Set Up Plex (and Watch Your Movies on Any Device) Set up a Plex server and you can browse your media from a beautiful interface, complete with show notes and a lot more. There are about a half dozen streaming music services that integrate directly into C4 and a few others with partial integration, like Spotify (via Spotify Connect) and Apple Music (via Shairbridge).įor more info on how to use a few music streaming services in C4 see: Happily, there’s a Plex Channel for Roku. Tidal is one example of that and they provide lossless music. Is there a specific reason why you don't use streaming services, like your music isn't available on those services? You may want to consider subscribing to a music service that integrates well with C4. But fewer people are doing that these days as people are moving to music services like Spotify, Apple Music or Tidal or whatever to play music. C4 will then read the music files in and provide you with direct playback control with a nice UI with album art, etc.
#ROKU PLEX MAC#
With C4 you can point the controller to hard drives on your Mac Mini with MP3 or other types of music files. You are probably better off playing music directly from the C4 UI rather than using Plex to play music. With Plex integrated into C4 I still will be able to view all my movies (all non iTunes), music (all mp3s and non iTunes), and my pictures? And with the Roku, I simply need to open the Plex app? Is this correct?ģ. Also what is the best way to integrate my Plex server into Control4? The Roku Ultra.or the Chowmein driver, isn’t the only difference with the Chowmein driver: I can launch media directly from the C4 menu. Will it be ok to use the apps from the TV?Ģ. Would I need to buy a Roku Ultra? I read that Roku is much easier to integrate into C4.
#ROKU PLEX ANDROID#
Purchased a new Sony smart Android TV X900H. I currently have all my media, movies, music & pictures on a Mac Mini running Plex. I am doing a lot of reading to learn more prior to moving in.ġ. Keep in mind, I currently do not have C4 or have any previous experience with C4. I'm really hoping that I didn't purchase the HDHomerun and will be unable to use it, with Roku, as that is the only streaming device, I'd prefer to use.We are getting ready to move into our newly constructed house which will have Control4! Super excited! I'm confused by what I've been reading, because some people are saying the Roku doesn't work for streaming live TV, and others say that there is a work-around by using an add-on that handles trans-coding to what the Roku understands. I have no issues with having to setup another server to handle any trans-coding or anything. I would just like to know a way to stream HDHomerun through my Roku player to my TV. At this point, I just want to be able to watch live TV using my Roku, not even having to use Plex to do it. In summary I can't watch live TV through my Roku device, while using Plex. The big problem that I am having is that I am unable to watch live TV through the Plex app streaming through my Roku. I am also able to successfully watch live TV through my IOS devices (Ipad and Iphone) without a single issue. I have configured the HDHomerun appropriately through Plex and am able to setup recording without a problem.

I just purchased an HDHomeRun Extend that plays my over the air broadcast through my network. I have a Plex media server setup, and use my Roku device to stream it on to my TV. I have been searching on this topic for awhile now and haven't been able to get an answer.
